In March 2019 we were chosen to lead the design process of the new brand identity for the City of Manta.

Located on the Pacific coast, Manta has the largest seaport in Ecuador. It is the tenth most populous in the country, as well as the largest and most populated city in the Manabí Province.

The city had 192,322 inhabitants. Manta main economic activity is tuna fishing. Other economic activities include tourism and a chemical industry.

The requirements for the new brand of the city were focused on 5 axes Tourism, Fauna, Commerce, Sustainability and Inclusiveness. In addition to this, a brand adaptable to the new changes in the city and its directions was needed.

Our solution to this challenge is a new visual identity that refers to some forms and symbols of the ancestral writing of the Manteña Huancavilca culture.

The Brandon Grotesque typeface was taken as a basis and then resulted in a typographic brand with a minimalist style that represents the unity of the 5 axes of the new administration.

The result meets universal design requirements, so that it can be used by everyone. The solution also aims for simplification, flexibility, and greater efficiency.
